A 3 kW rooftop solar system in Noida or Ghaziabad costs roughly Rs 1.8 lakh to Rs 2.2 lakh before subsidy. Here is the good news that many residents miss: Uttar Pradesh adds a state subsidy on top of the central one, which can bring your net cost down to well under Rs 1 lakh.
The subsidy stack. The central PM Surya Ghar subsidy pays Rs 30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW plus Rs 18,000 for the third, capping at Rs 78,000. On top of that, UPNEDA provides roughly Rs 15,000 per kW capped at around Rs 30,000 per consumer. Combined, a 3 kW system in Noida or Ghaziabad can attract close to Rs 1.08 lakh in total subsidy. On a Rs 2 lakh system that is more than half the cost covered.
That makes UP one of the better states in India for residential rooftop solar economics, and it is the single most important fact for a Noida or Ghaziabad homeowner to know before they start collecting quotes.
How the process runs. Your application goes through the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in, and locally through UPNEDA and your DISCOM. Net metering in UP is allowed up to your sanctioned load, with monthly settlement and an annual true-up. Your sanctioned load is printed on your electricity bill, and a system substantially larger than it can run into approval trouble, so check this early.
What you are paying for. Panels are roughly half the cost, currently 550W to 590W monocrystalline PERC modules, so 3 kW is five or six panels. The inverter is fifteen to twenty per cent. The rest covers structure, cabling, earthing, protection, labour and paperwork. Elevated mounting to clear a water tank adds to structure cost.
Sizing for your bill. Divide your monthly bill by your tariff to get units, divide by thirty for daily units, then by about 3.6 for the kW you need. A Rs 3,000 bill typically points to around 3 kW. Since the central subsidy caps at 3 kW and the UP top-up caps around the same point, 3 kW is the economic sweet spot for most households here.
Roof space. Allow 80 to 100 square feet of clear, shadow-free roof per kW, so 250 to 300 square feet for a 3 kW system. Many Noida sectors have generous independent-house terraces, which helps. In apartment blocks the roof is common property and the route is usually through the RWA under the group housing provision.
Non-negotiable conditions. The installer must be registered on the PM Surya Ghar portal, and the panels must be DCR-compliant. Fail either and you receive nothing, however good the installation. Get both confirmed in writing on the quotation.
Timing. Subsidy is credited by direct bank transfer typically thirty to forty-five days after the DISCOM inspects and commissions your system. It does not arrive upfront, so plan your cash flow accordingly, or use the collateral-free loan of up to Rs 2 lakh at around seven per cent available through public sector banks.
